WE ARE A 501c(3) NOT-FOR-PROFIT
We bring Christmas to children who deserve to feel as special as any other child. We work year round to prepare but the fall season is when our charitable organization goes into hyper drive to make thousands of children feel adored. This is the biggest difference between us and any other holiday gift drive: when a child gets what they asked for, they know they are heard, they know they matter, and they know their parents care. Here is how we get presents to children who would otherwise go without.
Our partners, the outstanding charities that serve NYC families every day, have kids write their Christmas wish list to Santa. Each child and teen creates their own Christmas wish list. Of course, lots of kids ask for what every kid wants – toys. But there are an equal number of requests for life’s essentials: clothes, books, strollers.
The majority of the children are assigned to Santas, who are individuals or groups who commit to sponsoring children’s wishes. These Santas shop for at least two or three items on their child’s/children’s list(s). We gather cash donations to sponsor children who aren’t matched.
Volunteers get together in a temporary donated space for four days to collect, organize and wrap gifts Santas bring. This is the biggest difference between us and any other holiday gift drive: when a child gets what they asked for, they know they are heard, they know they matter, they know their parents care.
We collect, and organize the gifts Santas bring, and deliver the gifts in donated transportation to the parents of the children. It is like a chain of love. Each gift is touched by many, which amplifies it’s meaning for us all.
Project First Day is another project by the Stockings With Care volunteers, providing school supplies for children on their first day back to school. As with Stockings with Care, many hands help support families and children who deserve a good start to the school year. For more information, please visit http://projectfirstday.org
